1984

Mr. Young was directed to leave high school in the 10th grade after failing 6 of 7 classes and missing over 1/3 of the school year.

1987

Mr. Young graduated high school in the bottom 8% of his class with a 1.52 Grade Point Average (GPA).

1988

In Mr. Young's first three terms at the Northern Virginia Community College, it resulted in two academic warnings (Winter and Spring quarters 1988) and then academic probation (Fall semester 1988). Mr. Young then left the college before being academically dismissed.

1991

Mr. Young registered for non-degree classes at American University to prove his ability to perform at a top-tier school in the Fall 1991.

1992

After a few semesters taking non-degree classes, Mr. Young was admitted to American University as a full-time student to pursue his Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

1993

Mr. Young earn his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in International Business with a Marketing concentration from American University in December 1993.

Spring 1994

Mr. Young registered for non-degree classes at The George Washington University to prove his readiness for graduate level coursework.

Summer 1994

Mr. Young was admitted to The George Washington University to to pursue his Master of Business Administration.

1995

Mr. Young was academically dismissed from The George Washington University in the Fall 1995 due to his Grade Point Average (GPA) dropping below a 3.0 to a 2.95.

1996

Mr. Young was readmitted to The George Washington University in the Summer 1996.

1997

Mr. Young received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Finance and Investments with a concentration in Organizational Development in May 1997.

1998

Mr. Young was admitted (again) to The George Washington University to pursue his Master of Science in Project Management in the Summer 1998.

2000

Mr. Young received his Master of Science in Project Management degree in May 2000.

2008

Mr. Young started teaching at the Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) in the Fall 2008 (20 years after leaving it due to poor academic performance).

2012

In the Spring 2012, Mr. Young was nominated for "Faculty of the Year."

October 2013

Mr. Young started teaching inmates about business and soft skills at a local jail through his nonprofit organization "Saving Our Communities at Risk Through Educational Services (SOCARTES - socartes.org).

February 2017

Mr. Young became a professor at the Marymount University.

April 2018

Mr. Young received the "Martin Luther King, Jr. Innovative Service Award" from the Department of Education in conjunction with the White House Initiative for Educational Excellence for African-Americans.

June 2018

Mr. Young was recognized as "Volunteer of the Month" from the Sheriff's Office for teaching inmates at a local jail.

July 2018

Mr. Young received the "Distinguished Service Award" from Leadership Arlington for his years of teaching over 500 inmates at a local jail.

Fall 2019

Mr. Young received three "Most Valuable Professor (MVP)" selections from Marymount University student-athletes.

Fall 2020

Mr. Young became a doctoral student to pursue his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Organizational Innovation.

May 2021

Mr. Young was promoted to become full Professor Stacey L. Young... but still just call him "Sly."
